Are Handbuilt Wheels For You?

That depends on what you're looking for. Many riders are happy to go down to the LBS and buy whatever they have in stock, and there's nothing wrong with that. Some riders, like myself, spend a lot of time thinking through and hand selecting all of the components that go into making a bike move. If you've already customized most of the other parts of your bicycle, custom built wheels are the next step.

Benefits of custom wheels include being able to select the parts to match yor ideal use for them. Do you want a lighweight, race day wheelset? Or do you want a more durable training set to abuse? Of course it would be ideal to have a climbing set, rain day set, Aero set, etc. Along with being able to hand pick the components you want comes the ability to make your set more unique with your choice of color combinations; this customization is not available on factory-made wheels.

Your handbuilt wheels can also be tuned for the way you ride. Spoke diameters and count can be selected based on your strength, weight and general riding style. Spoke patterns and tension can be adjusted to stiffen or soften the ride as you require. Once you have decided your main use for the wheels, I can help you select the correct set of components to meet your desires. Click here to get started.
