That depends on what you're looking for. Many riders are happy to go down to the LBS and buy whatever they have in stock, and there's nothing wrong with that. Some riders, like myself, spend a lot of time thinking through and hand selecting all of the components that go into making a bike move. Your handbuilt wheels can also be tuned for the way you ride. Spoke diameters and count can be selected based on your strength, weight and general riding style. Spoke patterns and tension can be adjusted to stiffen or soften the ride as you require.
