About Chaton Rouge

Admittedly, I became a fan of cycling by watching some of the spectacular performances that came out of the doping era of the late '90's and early 2000's. That was when I bought my first road bike and was inspired, years later, to enter my first races as a collegiate cyclist.

After entering those first few races, and getting my butt kicked, I was hooked. In addition to road races, I began racing cyclocross and on the track. Finding this joy in racing, and teaching others about racing, has kept me fully engaged with the sport: though I still enjoy watching professional races, I no longer need to find heroes in those ranks to sustain my interest in cycling. I raced my way up to a Cat. 3 in road racing and cyclocross (hopefully that'll change next year) and have done some coaching along the way to help others find similar joy in riding and racing.

Somewhere along the way, I became somewhat obsessively interested in the gear that goes into bike racing and riding. I'm not necessarily talking about super sleek aero helmets and the latest and greatest carbon frames, but I'm definitely talking about things that make a bike function. Being a racer on a budget, I have always looked for what will give me the most bang for the buck along with what will be durable enough to not need to be replaced constantly. It started with replacing my first chains and cassettes, and reached a new high the first time I slotted a spoke into a fresh hub and reached for the spoke wrench.

I want to bring that drive for cost-effective, but quality componentry to you. If you're here, you're at least somewhat interested in what handbuilt, custom wheels can do for you. Look around the pages here and contact me if you have any questions or are ready get the ball rolling.
